I recently reviewed for BoxOffice.co.uk for the first time, and was given the opportunity to see the talented Showstoppers in their very first West End run, playing at the Apollo Theatre.
I first saw this group improvising at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe a few years ago, and it’s great to see them on such a big stage! They are surely the most talent improv troupe I’ve ever watched, not only being utterly hilarious but also creating song, rhyme and harmony off the cuff.
It is a unique show to review, in that every performance is of course completely different. On the night I attended, we were treated to I’ve Just Been Dumped, set in a portaloo factory in Wigan; it doesn’t sound like the setting of heady romantic entanglements, animal revolts and farcical comedy, but that’s where you’d be wrong.
